Chewy.com is Here!

The box from Chewy.com arrived yesterday evening, unfortunately, too late for the kids' supper. We gotta keep to a schedule...

So this morning Dee Dee got her first helping of kangaroo. She liked it fine but then Labs really will eat pretty much anything. Since being at the vet's we've taken her off all treats, giving her carrots instead. She's already licking less, so we are hopeful this will work.

We'll keep you posted.

I wish you much luck with the kangaroo food and hope Miss Dee Dee responses positively. I know how hard it is to figure out. Our last yellow lab chewed at her paws so bad her fur on the tops of her paws were stained red. We tried benedryl, we switched food multiple times with no luck. Vets even said she is probably nervous and it is just her thing. I did not believe it was nerves, but thought it could just be her thing. Finally, one vet (our regular was on vacation and Miss Belle needed to see a vet for Something else and I mentioned and pointed at the red paws) at our reg practice said, well ... try an athlete's foot cream since nothing else worked. It cleared up in less than a month. All along she just had a yeast condition by her sweat glands. Took about six months for the fur to grow out to beautiful yellow again. I felt so horrible that she had suffered for a couple years and I didn't have a clue how to help her.
I doubt this is true for Miss Dee Dee, but thought I would share.

Beth,

Thank you for sharing. I think somewhere along the way we did use a cream on her feet. She also has the itchy ears and bottom (ears and rears, as the vets say). So that really points to an allergy. Yesterday she was pretty good. This morning she's back at her paws - but it's only been 24 hours...

Dyna kept getting this foot fungus whenever we were at this one marina. It turned out that the walk to swimming spot (the reason we stopped there) went right over someone's septic tank....yuck!

I have two darling yellow English Labs that look remarkably like Dee Dee and Dylan. One has had allergies for years -- I did allergy shots for several years and he could only eat salmon or duck. This spring a vet recommended a new drug Apoquel -- I've had amazing results. He has had no hot spots or hives (or itchy ears and rears) since he's started and I've been able to liberalize his diet. It's a new drug so there is probably not a lot of research on it but its a very reputable vet that recommended it. Good luck to Dee Dee -- I hope she feels better soon. Suki, Chino, and Georgy
