Great video and narration. We also went offshore between Morehead City and Masonboro Inlet (although somewhat shorter than your trip) and really enjoyed the day, especially without four bridge openings, narrow channels and traffic! Enjoy BHI, kick back and relax. Happy Thanksgiving. 73, John & Marilyn, Dixie & Gracie

What a great cruising day! Did you have to touch the wheel at all?

How was travel thru the slue? I assume its marked with lighted buoys.

Good questions...

- We never touched the wheel between leaving the Beaufort inlet and entering the Cape Fear inlet. We never had to steer to avoid any other boats or any fishing gear/pots. There was a ship that overtook us in the Cape Fear inlet along with the pilot boat. It's a very large, very safe inlet though and never presented any issues. The main difficulty was anchoring in the dark with 2.5 kts of current against us. Our anchor alarm was 30 feet off as we were pushed backwards until the anchor hit the bottom.

- The slue has a lit buoy at the beginning and the end. The main channel has a red/green pretty close together. They are not lit and very difficult to see at night. It's not very wide there either. We steered solely by radar and were able to see the buoys only when we were right alongside them.

You can see the charts for the slue here:

Have made the trip from Beaufort Inlet to Masonborough Inlet many times, last May being likewise visited by dolphins (http://www.youtube.com/user/Krogen48#p/a/u/1/Q1FKU6H5u9I).

FYI, Wrightsville Beach will have a boat parade and great fireworks display on the water this Saturday night (always the 4th Saturday in November). Everything takes place in Motts Channel and the anchorage. Should be about a 3.5 hour run for you from Bald Head.
